Passage of Floor Amendment 3 by Shapleigh. 5/23/97, p 2639 Amendment failed 12- 19.
YCT Nay. This statue allows landowners to mark trees or posts with purple paint as a warning to would-be-trespassers. Just like a “NO TRESPASSING” sign or actual communication to individuals that no trespassing is allowed on the property. This bill set forth provisions regarding a notice that entry on property is forbidden for the purpose of prosecuting the offense of trespass. Floor amendment three would have diminished greatly the purpose of the bill by placing into the bill a defense for trespass who are colorblind, or have other medical disorders which prevent them from seeing the purple paint clearly.
