YCT Nay. The bill wouldl shift punishment for welfare fraud from criminal offenses to agency administrative offenses. The bill would have prohibited the Health and Human Services Commission from seeking criminal prosecution of individuals who engage in fraudulent conduct to obtain or try to obtain governmental financial assistance, food stamps, and Medicaid assistance. People who defraud taxpayers in receiving government assistance should be subject to criminal prosecution.
