14. SB 30 - Gray Amendment

POSITION
Oppose Amendment
House Record Vote: 407

Passage of Amendment #8 by Gray. 5/21/99. RV #407, p 2760 The Gray Amendment failed 71-75 in which the Speaker voted for the only time in the session.

YCT Nay. The Amendment would have circumvented parental notification for minors wishing to have abortions by allowing the doctor to notify any family member over the age of 25 of the minor’s intentions to have an abortion if the minor does not live with a parent. YCT believes that abortions should be treated like any other medical procedure and at least require parental notification. This session, a bill requiring that minors receive notarized parental consent for body-piercing devices passed the Legislature without much debate.
