Final Passage House Bill 770 Journal Page 1830 26 Yeas, 5 Nays.

YCT Nay. House Bill 770 would have required the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to notify prisoners who are eligible to vote that they are eligible to vote. The TDCJ should spend all of its resources on securing and rehabilitating prisoners; notifying prisoners of voting eligibility is grossly outside of the realm of appropriateness for this agency. Furthermore, the government is not required in any other circumstance to notify citizens of their eligibility to vote, and to notify only a certain population skews democracy.
