Motion to Suspend the Rules; March 23, 2009 Journal Page 654: 21 Yeas, 10 Nays
YCT Nay. SB 315 would have created a bipartisan commission for congressional redistricting. Redistricting, as with most functions of government, should be responsible to the will of voters, and this bill sought to take the power of redistricting out of the hands of the most representative branch of government. A bipartisan commission would instill a permanent balance between the parties that would not be reflective of the political make-up of our state. Furthermore, a commission of this sort would inevitably serve to protect the interests of incumbents, above all else.
