YCT Yea. Amendment 1 to SB 212 would have prevented members of the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) from spending political contributions raised as a commissioner on any race other than reelection. While it is a worthy concern that politicians could use the position of Commissioner as a launching pad for higher office to the detriment of the commission, it is hypocritical for the legislature to put limits on the RRC that they do not have to meet themselves and have not placed on other state officials.
