Passage; May 3, 2017; Journal Page 1604; 23 Yeas, 7 Nays, 1 Present-not-voting

YCT Nay. SB 1289 would add requirements to the steel industry, requiring them to use American made steel when fulfilling government contracts. YCT opposes such restrictions that this bill proposes because they are likely to increase costs and decrease efficiencies. It is much more prudent for government to allow free market competition to work and find the best, most effective process. While we support the effort to promote American made products and American jobs, we believe that this bill is doing more harm than good.
