Adoption; May 11, 2017; Journal Page 1864; 21 Yeas, 10 Nays

YCT Yea. In addition to limiting speech on college campuses, institutions of higher education (IHE) create policies implying where students can and cannot engage in expressive activities. Senator Hughes’ amendment would have prevented IHEs from designating certain areas of campuses as “free speech zones” rather than allowing all of campus to be one. By limiting speech to a certain part of campus is in direct violation of our First Amendment. YCT supports protecting free speech, especially on college campuses.
