Passage; May 19, 2017; Journal Page 2132; 23 Yeas, 8 Nays

YCT Nay.
HB 62 would implement a statewide prohibition on the use of a wireless communication device to read, write, or send an electronic message while operating a vehicle. Additionally, the bill stipulates that a peace officer must witness the act or be able to establish proof by other evidence of the offense committed by a driver of a vehicle. YCT values safe driving on our roads, however, laws like this are nearly unenforceable and only work to increase government surveillance. Representative Craddick has attempted to get this bill passed for 4 sessions in a row and it, unfortunately, finally made it through.
