Passage; May 14, 2019; Journal Page 1889; 25 Yeas, 6 Nays.
YCT Nay. House Bill 337 creates a criminal offense for individuals who do not have a cutoff or killswitch on a boat. This bill is well-intentioned; however, YCT believes that having a cutoff or a killswitch on a boat should be a personal responsibility and not a responsibility dictated by the government. Making this a criminal offense also opens the door to potential abuse by game warden authorities who could use this legislation as the premise for stopping boats for search and seizure. For these potential violations of personal freedom and liberty, YCT opposes this bill.
