SB 22: Prohibiting State and Political Subdivisions From Using Taxpayer Dollars to Fund Abortion Providers
Passage; April 2, 2019; Journal Page 692; 20 Yeas, 11 Nays.
YCT Yea. Before the 86th legislative session, there were multiple reports that facilities operated by Planned Parenthood were receiving intentionally preferential treatment from the City of Austin. The City of Austin has provided Planned Parenthood with substantially reduced rates on their facility lease, in this case, only $1 per year, essentially granting these facilities a full endorsement through the allocation of taxpayer dollars. SB 22 addressed this issue and others by prohibiting taxpayer money and resources from moving between an applicable governmental entity and an abortion provider. YCT supports any legislation which protects the lives of the unborn and moves towards decreasing or eliminating abortion in the state of Texas and therefore supports this bill.
