YCT Yea. SB 8 prohibited abortion after a preborn child’s heartbeat can be detected. Any physician who performs such an abortion or fails to attempt to detect a fetal heartbeat is held liable, as is anyone who aids or abets in that illegal abortion. This bill utilizes civil rather than criminal enforcement to avoid pre-enforcement lawsuits while still holding abortionists accountable. This is the most substantial protection for preborn children in the nation, and an estimated 150 babies are saved daily by this law. YCT supports protecting the lives of preborn children through legislation that eliminates abortion.
