HB 1859 allows a career and technology education (CTE) program to count as a training program for the purposes of qualifying for an air conditioning and refrigeration technician certification. It also lowers the minimum age for when one can apply for a technician registration from 18 to 16. YCT favors continuing to do away with the one-size-fits-all approach to education by increasing options for students to pursue careers in skilled trades by earning training and workforce certifications demanded by the local market.
